What Does An Equine Shiatsu Session Involve ?

Before your horse receives Shiatsu, it is necessary to contact your vet in order to ensure that they are happy for your horse to receive treatment.

The first consultation involves taking a detailed history.  Questions will be asked relating to the main complaint and other aspects of health to build a clear picture of your horses physical, mental and emotional state.

Normally this lasts up to ninety minutes, and will include the first full hands-on assessment; consisting of a visual examination and palpation.  After this the horses energetic state will be assessed and treated accordingly.

Further sessions will take up to one hour beginning with an evaluation of your horses progress since the last session.

Treatments are normally quiet and peaceful, allowing the horse to relax deeply, therefore a quiet environment is preferable.

How Will My Horse React ?

The response is individual as your horse is !

Many horses feel very relaxed and they often doze.  Common responses are self stretching, licking and chewing, yawning, lips wobbling and stomach gurgling.

Shiatsu can be deeply relaxing for your horse, it is recommended that you avoid riding for at least two hours before a session, and four hours afterwards.
